Chamber Chapter for June 29, 2009
From the Director… On July 4, 1776, we claimed our independence from Britain and democracy was born. Every day thousands leave their homeland to come to the "land of the free and the home of the brave" so they can begin their American Dream. The United States is truly a diverse nation made up of dynamic people and each year on July 4, Americans celebrate that freedom and independence with barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings.
Not only is Saturday Independence Day, but tomorrow, Tuesday, June 30th the Clearfield Chamber of Commerce invites you to experience true patriotism by seeing the Army Concert Band & Soldiers’ Chorus, one of the United States Army Field Band’s four performing components, live. They will be performing a free concert for area residents on the new Clearfield Fair Grounds Grandstand Stage beginning at 7 p.m.
As the premier touring musical representative for the United States Army, the Field Band travels thousands of miles each year throughout the nation and abroad, keeping the will of the American people behind the members of the armed forces and supporting diplomatic efforts around the world. Since its formation in 1946, the Field Band has appeared in all 50 states and in more than 30 countries on four continents.
The Soldiers’ Chorus, which was founded in 1957 and is comprised of a 29-member mixed choral ensemble, joins the 65-member Concert Band for this amazing show, which presents a powerful and diverse program of marches, overtures, popular music, patriotic selections, and instrumental and vocal solos.
The Field Band’s members, selected by highly competitive auditions, represent some of the finest musical talent in America. More than five decades as the military’s most traveled musicians have earned them the title, “The Musical Ambassadors of the Army.”
